about us

The Mississippi Girlchoir is a choral music education and performance program open to girls in grades three through twelve. It was founded in 1995 under the leadership of Lillian Lee, starting with 17 singers. Today there are more than 100 girls in four choirs from Prima for beginners to Jubilate, the intermediate choir, to Lyrica for singers in training for Bel Canto, the touring and performing choir for older girls. All choirs perform holiday and spring concerts and sing in church services and community functions.

Because of their choral excellence Bel Canto has become known nationally and internationally, performing in 2006-2007 for two national music conferences and one divisional convention. In the summer of 2007 the choir participated in a festival in Sydney, Australia with a solo performance on the Sydney Opera House stage. The summer of 2009 the group toured in Hawaii and in 2010 they performed at Carnegie Hall.  They will make their debut performance in Jauary 2012 at Lincoln Center.  In past years they have performed in Washington, D.C., Italy, Boston, Toronto, New Orleans, Oregon, Hawaii, and England.

Mississippi Girlchoir is a member-supported, tuition based, nonprofit organization governed by a board of directors.
